Why I turned down Ayade’s generosity – Catholic Bishop

During a Thanksgiving mass held on Sunday in Calabar, the Catholic Bishop of the Uyo Diocese, John Ebebe Ayah, gave an explanation of why he’rejected’ Governor Ben Ayade’s generosity.
To the consternation of the crowd and everyone else in the church, Bishop Ayah gently rejected the governor’s alluring “whispered package” at the mass that was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic, Ikot Ansa, Calabar.
This occurred during Justice Emmanuel Agim Akomaye’s service of thanksgiving. Akomaye was recently elevated to the position of Judge of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
According to Vanguard, Gov. Ayade, who was a special guest of honor, was asked to contribute to the church’s 2022 harvest unveiling.
On behalf of the state government, his family, and the judiciary, the governor donated N25 million.
“You are our pride, the pride of Cross River North, the son of the soil, Bishop John Ayah, I will whisper my package to you later.
The Bishop acknowledged that the governor was his brother from Northern Cross River and said that he wanted to express himself.
“I want to talk. The governor is my brother, we are both from Cross River North. I want to appreciate the governor and tell him to package whatever he has for me, add to it and use it to pay the salaries of the workers,” Bishop Ayah said.
Vanguard learned that everyone in the audience gave the Bishop a standing ovation that lasted for several minutes before dying down.
According to a parishioner who talked with Vanguard anonymously, Gov. Ayade returned to the podium to explain himself right away.
He said that the workers’ payments were prepared and added that his government has been dependable and regular in paying salaries for more than seven years.
