When Nigeria gained its independence in 1960, it was categorized as a developing new country. But 61 years later, we are still one of the world’s least advanced and poor nations. Our deficits are among the greatest while all of our economic, social, political, and human development metrics are among the lowest.

The discovery that Nigeria has 56,000 unfinished projects confirms the country’s alleged lack of development. The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS, revealed the existence of this huge number of unfinished projects in August 2021 and estimated the cost at N12 trillion. This was recently confirmed by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, at a lecture at the University of Ibadan.
