Traffic police sent to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway – Works Controller

More law enforcement and traffic control agencies have been deployed, according to Mrs. Forosola Oloyede, the acting Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, who revealed this on Sunday.
She revealed this in a statement she made in Lagos, where she also provided an update on the traffic conditions in the expressway’s Berger/OPIC section, where construction work is still going on.
Since the last four days have been so difficult for drivers, several locals staged a demonstration on Saturday and carried signs pleading for the federal government to step in.
In response, the government expressed regret and pledged, among other measures to lessen the hardship, to reassess the axis’ traffic management.
She added that the contractor had been told to stop all unauthorized detours from the main roads, particularly those between Magboro and OPIC.
“This is to prevent the illegal U-turn at OPIC which also exacerbates the traffic gridlock within that axis,” the official said.
Oloyede issued a warning that any driver found dismantling any of the barriers deployed to impede unauthorized detours would be detained and subject to appropriate legal action.
She claimed that certain drivers’ impatience and risky behavior was to blame for the traffic jams on the highway that occurred between Friday and Saturday.
She claimed that these drivers went against the flow of traffic, making it difficult for other law-abiding road users.
She gave motorists and other road users the advice to stop doing this to stay out of legal trouble.
Oloyede claimed that because of the reconstruction work, traffic was moving slowly along the road.
As a result, she reminded drivers to always drive slowly through construction zones because delays are to be expected there.
“However, the Ibadan-bound lane is now clear and there is a free flow of traffic, while the Lagos-bound lane is expectedly slow but moving as a result of the ongoing works,” she said.
The temporary federal controller expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation, patience, and understanding.
Oloyede also expressed gratitude to Lagos State Government authorities for their assistance and cooperation in resolving the bottleneck.
According to her, the continuing construction on the axis is focused on a prompt project completion so that Nigerians can benefit from a world-class road infrastructure.
Oloyede encouraged drivers to keep their lanes in order and to follow any traffic control officials who were posted along the road.
She explained that this was done to avoid such bottlenecks in the future and to enable the project’s prompt completion.
