The vulnerable individuals grant will help 7,264 Borno citizens, according to the Minister

The Grant for Vulnerable Groups, GVG, initiative of the Federal Government will assist more than 7,264 people in Borno.
This was said on Wednesday in Maiduguri during the program’s inauguration by Sadiya Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development.
According to Mrs. Farouq, the initiative began in 2020 as a grant for rural women to support President Buhari’s administration’s social inclusion drive and fulfill its pledge to pull 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.
“The GVG was designed to provide a one-off grant, a cash grant of N20,000.00, to some of the poorest and most vulnerable Nigerians in rural and peri-urban areas across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

“To empower the beneficiaries to improve their productivity and their commercial activities, mainly aimed at easing poverty.
“Let me add here that our target in Borno State is to disburse the grant to 7,264 beneficiaries across the 27 local government areas of the state.
“This is one of the highest slots in the country and this is because we put into account the impact of insurgency and large volume of IDPs in the state,” Mrs Farouq said.
She stated that Buhari has mandated that 70% of the beneficiaries be women as part of his purposeful social inclusion drive, with the remaining 30% going to youth.

She added that Buhari gave the order that beneficiaries with special needs, including as senior citizens and people with disabilities, should make up at least 15% of the overall number of beneficiaries.
The minister stated that recipients were supposed to use the award to boost their production, build wealth, create jobs, and raise their standard of living while noting that the grant’s goal was to increase recipients’ income and productive assets.
Governor Babagana Zulum praised the federal government for continuing to support Borno, noting that it was commendable to include elderly and disabled people.

Prof. Isa Marte, Mr. Zulum’s chief of staff, claimed on his behalf that the state government has invested billions in assisting those in need, particularly in rural regions.
The governor said that the measures had made a significant dent in rebel recruitment efforts in rural areas.
The minister also ran digital payment for conditional cash transfer and provided starting packets to 168 N-skills recipients as part of other programs in Maiduguri.
She also oversaw the recruitment of impartial observers and the launch of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program, or NHGSFP.
