Take Me To Any Party I Will Still Perform, Wike Taunts PDP

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has persisted in attacking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying on Tuesday that he can still deliver to the public’s approval no matter which party he joins.
While continuing a week-long inauguration of infrastructure carried out by his administration, the governor, who has avoided PDP activities but has continued to romance high members of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, once again hit his party during the inauguration of the dualised Ogbunuabali-Eastern Bypass Road.
After welcoming two APC-affiliated governors, Dave Umahi and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the states of Ebonyi and Lagos, respectively, on Monday for the flyover’s commissioning, the governor welcomed Senator Aliyu Wamakko on Tuesday.
He minimized the contribution of the PDP to his administration, claiming that his success was unrelated to his affiliation with the group.
According to the combative governor, “Leadership is not about party, leadership is about individual. Party is only a vehicle to actualise your ambition, to be able to tell your people I have this capacity, I have this quality to render services to you.
“If you take me away today from PDP to another party, I will still perform. So, it is not because I’m in PDP that I’m performing.”
Wike whose membership of the PDP has come under serious scrutiny in the last two months made it clear that, “It is because I have that passion for my people. It is because I have the commitment to serve my people. Take me to YPP, allow me to become whatever I will become there, I will perform. Take me to any party, I will perform. So, it is not party that makes you to perform.”
During the PDP’s presidential primary in May, the former minister of state for education came in second place to Atiku Abubakar.
Since Atiku chose Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to be his running mate for president, he has continued to keep aloof from the party’s operations.
The PDP is now embroiled in a dilemma as a result of the governor of Rivers State receiving support from prominent party figures like the governors of Abia, Enugu, and Oyo States as well as previous governors, ministers, and current and past MPs.
Recent attempts to patch things up have also failed since the Atiku camp insists that the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, cannot step down until after the 2023 presidential election, rejecting the Wike camp’s main demand that he do so.
Insisting that his performance is not based on belonging to the PDP but rather on his unwavering love, passion, and commitment to provide effective service to the people, the governor reiterated his commitment to service.
