Security: I.G urges stakeholders in using Cybercrime Portal

Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has asked all stakeholders involved in security to use the Police Crime Reporting Portal to report all types of cybercrime in any region of the nation so that immediate action may be taken.

In a statement released on Wednesday by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Baba made the request.

Additionally, he invited members of the public to use the platform to report cases of theft, child abuse and exploitation, cyberbullying, stalking, and other forms of cybercrime.

According to Baba, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja serves as the home of the Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
He said that the gateway would provide 195 INTERPOL member nations with access to information and data sharing.

The I.G. claimed that the portal also provides visitors with condensed information on cybercrime awareness and internet safety.

Other examples include the 2015 Cybercrime Act and Africa’s First Storified Cybersecurity Handbook in portable document format, often known as “no go fall maga.”
To increase the Police’s capacity for gathering intelligence, Baba ordered that a new office complex for the Force Intelligence Bureau be built right away.

According to him, the new complex would be outfitted with cutting-edge ICT-based technology that would be in line with the reality of modern intelligence collection.

The head of the police force gave the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau (AIG-FIB) the order to deploy resources, both material and human, for efficient active intelligence gathering.
He also instructed the AIG-FIB to start teaching officers and personnel as soon as possible on how to use the new office space and technology.
