Presidency: We’ll soon uncover those responsible for Nigeria’s crude oil theft

The federal government will soon disclose the identity of prominent persons responsible for the theft of crude oil in the nation, according to the presidency.
This comes as Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, an ex-Niger Delta warlord and commander of the now-defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has vowed that there would be no safe havens for oil thieves and emphasized that the federal government is aware of those responsible for Niger Delta oil theft.

The House Minority Caucus has also demanded an invesatigation into the $40 million per day in crude oil theft that they claim has become into a well-organized ring under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Malam Garba Shehu, a spokeswoman for the president, claimed this over the weekend during a live television broadcast.

He claimed that security personnel had stormed places where illegal oil bunkering thrives as part of measures to purge the nation’s economy of sabotage.

Shehu added that additional measures were being implemented to stop it while also implying that there might be instances of some law enforcement officers partaking in the unlawful activity.

Theft of oil is being combated. 

The main issue we face in this nation is that communities need to do more to support law enforcement, according to Shehu.

“In some cases where some actors in the law enforcement are complicit, it becomes bad.”

The president’s spokesperson called Nigeria’s failure to reach the quota set by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries “embarrassing” (OPEC).

“We used to fight the OPEC for more quotas; now, they have given us and we are not able to meet up. This is embarrassing. As we speak today, all security agencies like the Nigerian Army, Navy, are massively involved in stopping this act,” he said.

“I am optimistic that the office of the national security adviser will expose to the country in the coming days the big men who push this kind of business as they are being apprehended and illegal refineries are being bombed out.
