Over 20 nations converge at Abuja for INAC 2022

Otunba Segun Runsewe, Director-General, National Council for Arts & Culture, has officially opened the 2022 International Arts & Crafts Expo (INAC) in Abuja today, August 18, 2022, with the theme “Networking Nigerian Crafts to the World.”

Not less than 25 nations and 8 states from Nigeria are present at the 15th edition of the Expo, which is being held at the Abuja Sheraton Hotels & Towers. Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Venezuela, Syria, India, Philippines, China, Iran, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Malaysia, Benin Republic, Sudan, Lebanon, South Korea, and Tanzania are a few of the nations already present on the ground.

Lagos, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, FTC, Kaduna, and Katsina are the Nigerian states that have traveled to Abuja for the yearly international event.

The goal of the expo, according to Otunba Runsewe, who spoke at the opening ceremony, is to better showcase Nigerian crafts in other parts of the world since we are better at telling our own stories. Additionally, it aims to encourage cross-national collaborations in music, the arts, drama, and other fields.

As usual, the expo is anticipated to include, among other things, skill-acquisition trainings for young people, free medical examinations and treatment, a showcase of countries’ art documentaries, and exhibitions of their respective arts, crafts, and cultures.

Runsewe said: “This is another opportunity we have to showcase Nigerian crafts to the world and to let the world know that Nigeria is a safe place to be. We want Nigerians to know that the creative industry is capable of tackling Nigerian insecurity problems by engaging the youths in our crafts for revenue generation.”

From August 18 to August 20, 2022, the expo takes place.
