Olowu of the Owu Visits Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

On Monday, Prof. Saka Matemilola, the recently elected Olowu of the Owu kingdom, was welcomed by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo at his former home in Ita-Iyalode, the capital of Ogun State.

The monarch was reassured by Obasanjo, the Balogun of the Owu kingdom, of his and the sons’ and daughters’ support.

Matemilola’s nomination as the new Olowu had been authorized by the state government last Wednesday.

Following the demise of the late Oba Adegboyega Dosumu, who passed away on December 12, 2021 and joined his ancestors, the Owu kingmakers, lead by Obasanjo, had screened seven princes vying for the vacant seat of the Olowu.

Matemilola’s encounter with Obasanjo and other high chiefs marked the beginning of his six-month long customary ceremonies.
Presenting the new monarch to the chiefs and others, Obasanjo said, “This is the fastest time that a new king will be filling a vacant seat at the passage of our departed monarch. We have preserved our culture and tradition and we must not allow our culture go into extinction.
“I want to assure you (Matemilola) of my unalloyed support and the support of the entire sons and daughters of Owu kingdom in your journey as the new Olowu of Owu kingdom.”
Leaders from the Christian, Muslim, and traditional faiths prayed for the new ruler.
