OGUN STATE SET TO COMPLETE LAGOS-ABEOKUTA EXPRESSWAY

According to the Ogun State Government, the Sango-Ota road rehabilitation on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway would be finished by December.

However, the administration denied the claim that its recently approved road project was intended to win support for the state governor of the same name’s bid for a second term.

The 32km Ijoko/Sango/Agbado road’s restoration was approved on Monday, according to the state administration.

According to the authorities, the 32 km route comprised the crossings at Alagbole and Akute.

Waheed Odusile, the state commissioner for information and strategy, and Ade Akinsanya, his counterpart in the ministry of works and infrastructure, said in a statement to journalists on Wednesday that the approval of the new road was given priority because of the poor state of the existing one and the difficulties faced by drivers.
Contractors, according to Akinsanya, have already been sent to the location.

According to him, the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun began building the road connecting the Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole and Yakoyo ends of Lagos’ Ojodu Berger in 2013 but never finished it.

He also said that the Mowe-Ofada Road, which was awarded by the previous administration in 2014 but was abandoned, would be rebuilt and enlarged with a drainage system.

Akinsanya stated that due to its terrible condition and hard for drivers to travel, work will begin simultaneously on the 7.5 kilometer Singer to tollgate.

He continued by saying that the 7.7 km from the Toll Gate to Singer will undergo sectional restoration, while other stretches of the road to the Abeokuta Brewery will undergo palliative work.
According to Akinsanya, the 8.5 km Sango end and the 1.5 kilometer Lagos/Ogun end would see early construction.

He stated: “The road projects on the Lagos-Abeokuta road will be completed by December. We are taking it phase by phase. Others will be done .”
In his remarks, Odusile stated that because the federal government declined to step in and help, the state opted to take up the road repairs.

He proceeded by saying that Governor Abiodun’s government had continued to increase the state’s internally generated revenue despite the declining income from the Federation Account Allocation Committee, which he said had an impact on the current administration’s physical projects.

He stated: “The dwindling FAAC is taking a toll on our administration. Without inflicting pain on our people we have been increasing our target to N100bn.
“We are expecting FG’s reaction on Singer/ Tollgate. So, we are not waiting if help is not coming from Abuja, we have to help ourselves.
“The road we are focusing on now are FG roads that we have made efforts in the past to fix. More than four times, Dapo went to Abuja with the Minister of Works. It is not about second term, we have been doing roads.
“What government has been doing is to use FAAC to take care of salaries and recurrent expenditures and dedicate our IGR to capital expenditures.”
