NSCDC Intercept and Apprehend Suspected Oil Thieves In Rivers State

Three accused oil thieves have been detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Rivers State Command, together with one large wooden boat and two trucks loaded with illegally processed petroleum products.
Following the dissolution and reconstitution of the Anti-vandal Unit across the federation, the Rivers State Command with a renewed vigor impounded a large wooden boat laden with roughly 24,000 liters of illegally refined petroleum products, including Dual Purpose Kerosene, in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, according to State Commandant Michael Ogar (DPK).
He described how the offenders hid the illegally refined petroleum products in sack bags after wrapping them in cellophane.
The suspects, William Chen (29) and Emmanuel Uriah (27) were tactically double-crossed and arrested by the Corps’ Marine Team, along Isaka Creek off the new Calabar River axis in Rivers State, based on sustained intelligence. The NSCDC State Commandant noted that the products were carefully arranged in the wooden boat such that a layperson would assume it to be a passenger boat.
In a related development, the Land Patrol Team detained 38-year-old Anayo Obasi in a minivan that was painted yellow and lemon and had 1,500 liters of illegally processed automobile gas oil (AGO) that was wrapped in cellophane.
Commandant Ogar further stated that at UTC Junction in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, a second Toyota Camry Car at Abonnema Wharf that was loaded with roughly 1,500 liters of illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO), was detained.
The Rivers NSCDC Boss urges the public to provide the Command with reliable and actionable intelligence that would improve the Command’s ability to crack down on oil thieves in the State, while also reiterating that the culprits will be taken to court.
