Man on trial for claiming to be Gay to scam people

Joseph Victor Ndubuka was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday with two counts related to romance fraud and failure to disclose assets totaling $28,000 before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court.

This was stated in a statement released by the commission on Monday.

One of the counts reads, “that you, Victor Joseph Ndubuka “m” sometime in March 2023 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly failed to make full disclosure of your assets by deliberately refusing to declare your cryptocurrency and Non-Fungible Token all worth about Twenty Eight Thousand Dollars in the Disclosure of Assets and Liabilities Form and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(3) (a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 and punishable under Section (27) (3) of the same Act.”

The accused allegedly used the false personality of a Caucasian gay man to rob unwary victims of their hard-earned money.

Ndubuka, on the other hand, entered a not guilty plea.

Justice Darius, however, postponed the case until May 3, 2023, for a hearing on the defendant’s bail application, and ordered that he be remanded at the Correctional Center while the prosecuting attorney, Precious C. Onyeneho, pleaded with the court to set a date for a hearing of the matter.
