JUST IN: Obasanjo’s relative bags seven-year imprisonment for financial crime

Olusegun Obasanjo’s in-law, Dr. John Abebe, was sentenced to seven years in prison for forgery and money laundering.

The decision was rendered on Saturday by Judge Mojisola Dada of the Ikeja Special Offenses Court, with the option of a fine of N50 million to be paid within 30 days in lieu of jail.

Abebe, the younger brother of the late former First Lady Stella Obasanjo, was charged with forgery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC, in the charges, claimed that Abebe “knowingly forged” a November 30, 1995 letter written by BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon Limited.

The trial judge handed the judgement after it was established that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him accordingly.
