IPPIS Found 54,000 False Payroll Entries, According to the NSA

Through its whistleblowing program, the Federal Government has discovered around 54,000 fraudulent payroll entries in its Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

This information was revealed by Mr. Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA), at the National Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Security held on Friday in Abuja and hosted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

He ascribed the discovery to IPPIS’s scope being widened despite strong opposition from some quarters.

Monguno added that the Federal Government’s stance on the payment platform to the detection was validated by the deployment of the Bank Verification Number (BVN).

He claimed that the consolidation of more than 70,000 bank accounts that were previously dispersed across the nation’s deposit money banks as a result of the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) in more than 90% of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the government has resulted in a monthly savings of about N4 billion in bank fees.

The purpose of the gathering was to talk about the nation’s current security issues and how corruption is contributing to them.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, and the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, were among those present.
