INEC releases final list of presidential, NASS candidates

The final list of candidates for president and the National Assembly from each political party running in the elections on February 25 has been made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The publication of the final list of candidates for national elections (presidential, senatorial and federal constituencies) was pursuant to section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 8 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election.

Following the conclusion of the political party nomination process and the holding of primaries, all candidates who had been nominated were publicly announced with their complete names and addresses on Sunday.

In accordance with section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, it was also a follow-up to the nationwide disclosure of all nominated candidates’ personal information.

The names of candidates who were legitimately nominated for national elections at the conclusion of the parties’ primaries are listed together with the window of time set out for withdrawal and candidate substitution.

The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar; the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu; Labour Party, Peter Obi; and New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were on the final list.

Similarly on the presidential list were Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu, presidential candidate of Zenith Labour Party and the running mate, Ramalan Abubakar; Dumebi Kachikwu presidential candidate, African Democratic Congress and his running mate, Ahmed Mani; among others.

The list published also contained the names of Senator Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom State and Senator Peter Nwaobishi of Delta State as well as Bashir Machina, who replaced the Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
