IN KUJE, FCTA DEMOLISHES HOTELS, CHURCHES,
AND ESTATES.

As part of its ongoing demolition campaign, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has destroyed small estates, residential structures, places of worship, hotels, restaurants, and other illegitimate constructions in the Kuje local council.
The FCTA officials stormed the council on Monday in the company of a well-armed joint security task team to start the week-long demolition exercise by first removing unlawful constructions from important roadways in Kuje town. Yesterday, they started demolishing large structures along the railway corridor.
Comrade Ikharo Attah, a senior special assistant to the FCT minister for monitoring, inspection, and enforcement, predicted that the demolition along the Kuje railway routes would continue for days until the illegally acquired lands were restored.
He reiterated his promise to the FCT minister that he would not give up until the railway routes were regained. He stated: “The Kuje railway corridors cleanup is one of the touchy exercises we are carrying out. It is quite a pathetic situation because when the team from the Department of Development Control came to mark these buildings, they never believed them.
“Our officers are badly touched doing this demolition, some were almost shading tears, that people who really ought to know about the demolition and pack out from their illegal structures did not pack out.

“They refused to pack out because the sellers of the illegal plots of land gave them hope that the government was not serious and will not come to demolish their buildings, but the minister has proved them wrong.”
Many of the buyers were advised to keep away from the land but disregarded the advice, according to some residents who watched the demolition activity. Lukman Abduralman, one of the locals, revealed that he was also persuaded by the sellers to buy land there but declined to take the risk.
Says Abdurahman: “They know that this is government land because they were told by those who know. I have been here since 2015.
They were told that the railway passed through here, but they claimed that the railway has been diverted.
“They even told me to come and buy a portion for N200, 000, but I refused to buy. The buyers said they are aware that the place is temporary and that anytime that government comes, they will leave.”
