FG works with the Niger Delta states to stop oil theft

Key figures in the Nigerian oil industry are currently in Delta State, one of the major oil-producing states, seeking the state government’s assistance in resolving one of the major issues the country is currently facing. Discussions on how to stop the ongoing crude oil theft are currently taking place.
When the Federal Government delegation on anti-oil theft met with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa promised to support all steps taken to lower oil theft in the nation.
According to the Minister, Nigeria cannot continue to be plagued by the type of crude oil theft that is currently occurring. As a result of their visit, the Delta State Government was asked to support the measures that would be taken to stop the problem because the Federal Government, he said, cannot do it alone.
General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, who oversees the security operation against oil theft, revealed that his men had been on top of issues with illegal refineries and illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region for the past five months. Mele Kyari, the chief executive of the NNPC Group, regretted the country’s loss in the face of the ongoing theft of crude oil.
Governor Okowa urged for including impacted communities in oil facility surveillance after attributing the current problem of oil theft to a rift between host communities and oil companies.
According to Governor Okowa, the sincerity of all the stakeholders is what will determine whether the Federal Government’s efforts to stop oil theft are successful.
