The National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Afolabi, announced that Shem Obafiaye, the officer best known for his widely shared “Oga at the Top” comment on a TV show years ago, has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commandant-General (DCG) of the Corps.
After making an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily” breakfast show in 2013, Obafiaye became well-known across the country. In response to a request for the NSCDC website at the time, Obafiaye jokingly said, “The website is… excuse me… wait… it can only be made known by my Oga at the top,” gesturing upwards. This comment quickly went viral.
He was redeployed from his role as the Lagos Commandant shortly after the humorous incident. Now, after a decade, Obafiaye has risen to the esteemed position of Deputy Commandant-General of the Corps.
