Delta 2023: Appeal Court Does A Reversal On Oborevwori’s Case

A PDP leader named Sheriff Oborevwori appealed the selection of Olorogun David Edevbie as the party’s nominee for governor of Delta state in the 2023 general election, and the Court of Appeal in Abuja has deferred judgment.
Recall that on July 7, 2022, Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja directed the Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP to recognize Olorogun Edevbie as the PDP’s candidate in the Delta state governor’s race of 2023.
In his ruling, Justice Taiwo declared Oborevwori ineligible to run for governor of Delta state on behalf of the PDP.
Because Oborevwori provided fabricated and misleading documents to the INEC to help him qualify for the governorship election, the trial judge agreed with the lawsuit’s plaintiff, Edevbie, that he shouldn’t be on the ballot for the PDP primary.
But because Oborevwori and the PDP were dissatisfied with the Federal High Court’s decision, Justice Taiwo, they went to the Court of Appeal to seek remedy.
The appellate court panel, chaired by Justice Peter I’ve, announced at the appeal’s resumed hearing on Friday that the parties will be informed of the date of ruling.
Since this is a pre-election matter, the 180 days required by the Constitution for the Delta state election matter to be decided will expire on September 5.
