Correctional service fines 100 and clears staff members involved in jailbreaks

100 personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service received sanctions between February 18, 2021, and September 20, 2022, for a variety of offenses. They were punished for, among other things, smuggling drugs into detention facilities, neglecting their duties, and being absent from work.

However, no official had received punishment for the string of jailbreaks that the service had documented.

Between 2021 and 2022, no fewer than five jailbreaks took place, leading to the escape of hundreds of prisoners, including convicted offenders.
