BLACKOUT: EXPERTS CALL FOR THE PROSECUTION OF ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES

The National Union of Electricity Employees’ two-day shutdown of the national grid between August 16 and August 17, 2022, has prompted experts in the power industry to advocate for legal action from the Federal Government against the union.

Businesses and other power users were left in the dark on Wednesday as a result of the nationwide power grid being completely shut down as a result of the nearly one-day-long strike by energy employees.

As NUEE employees went on strike in protest over, among other things, a mandatory promotion interview for major managers and unpaid entitlements, power generation plunged below 4,000 megawatts.

But on Friday, experts criticized the electrical workers’ choice to shut down the national grid in order to advance their demands at the Transmission Investment Fund.
