BANDITS ASSASSINATE TARABA TRADITIONAL LEADER

Udeng Ibrahim Yamusa, the traditional leader of the Yukuben chiefdom in Taraba State’s Takum Local Government Area, was assassinated by gunmen who are thought to be bandits.

According to information obtained by Channels Television, the robbers also killed his son’s driver.

The traditional leader and his son were abducted on Thursday in an ambush while they were traveling home from Takum, the Takum LGA’s administrative center, before the two were killed.

Pastor John Ibrahim, his first son and secretary, confirmed the occurrence and said that the victims were brutally slain while they were returning to the chiefdom.
“My father and brother were taken unaware by these suspected militias. They decided to travel on a motorcycle leaving his official car because of our dilapidated road network,” he said.
The traditional leader, who, according to him, was supposed to go to Takum for a peace meeting, made the decision to go home instead.

Ibrahim was unable to understand why the robbers who have been terrorizing residents of the Takum, Ussa, and Yangtu Special Development Areas had chosen to kill both his father and brother at the same time.

He demanded that troops be sent to Taraba State’s southern region while pushing security personnel to exhaust all possible avenues in their pursuit of the criminals.
The event was reported to Channels Television on Saturday night by DSP Kwache Gambo, acting Police Public Relations Officer in Taraba.

She claimed that distant from the scene of the kidnapping, the traditional leader’s and his son’s remains had been found in a bush in a different community.

According to Gambo, the state commissioner of police ordered an investigation into the incident to determine who was responsible for the murder.

The police spokeswoman urged the public to report any suspicious activity or potential threats to life immediately so that the police can take immediate action.
