Armed forces suffering from inexperienced personnel – Rtd. Colonel

The Nigerian Army is resilient and patriotic, but Hassan Stan-Labo, a retired colonel and security expert, stated on Wednesday that the institution is currently dealing with the issue of incompetent hands.
During the presentation of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Integrity Honour as Icon and Cynosure of Nation Building honor by the Northern Youth Congress of Nigeria, Stan-Labo spoke in an interview with our correspondent.
He stated: “I know the capabilities of the Nigerian Army, I know what we can do and what we can’t do. I know how resilient and patriotic we are. We are die-hard patriotic, we are too proud to protect the green-white-green of Nigeria. We are about the only Army in the world without food and water supply for three days to nearly one week and the troops are still fighting. All these are hazards we have gone through, only for us to come back to this.
“Part of the problem we have today is the lack of capacity and this is so abrupt because a good number of experienced hands are today veterans. It is a different thing from having knowledge because knowledge is different from experience. You could have the knowledge, which is fantastic, but when it comes to practice, that is what I will say is part of what the military is suffering.”
In order to achieve the greatest results, the former commander of the Nigerian forces in Dafur advised young people to participate in the political and decision-making processes in their nation.
“We have good hands but we are not engaging them and here we are stranded. This is a country that is exporting doctors but we are left with few doctors. We must know the state of leaders we are voting in. I am not pointing to any platform but we should tell ourselves the bitter truth. Bring in people who can put food on the table,” Stan-Labo stated.
