The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed the date for the distribution of the final lists of presidential and governorship candidates ahead of the general elections in 2023.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, announced the dates on Thursday in Abuja at a seminar with the theme “Conducting Nigeria’s 2023 Elections in Volatile Security Environment” that was put on by the Centre for Democracy and Development.
The breakdown of events leading up to the conduct of the 2023 elections was provided by Professor Yakubu. He noted that although the final list of presidential candidates will be revealed on September 20, the list of candidates for governorships will be released on October 4.
Political parties and their candidates were urged by INEC’s head to concentrate on issue-based campaigning. He went on to say that the commission is working with law enforcement to ensure a secure election.
